EDIT Writing system The Cherokee script was invented 1821 by a cherokee called Sequoyah. He didn\'t speak English and although he used some character shapes that are closely related to the shapes of Latin characters, the associated sounds don\'t match the sounds they usually represent. The shapes were changed a bit by missionaries later on.
Sequoya\'s script was immediately accepted by the cherokee community and used for handwriting as well as for many kinds of publications. It is still in use today, one of its main applications is the preservation of Cherokee religious works and traditional medicine.

The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because we the people have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebears, and true to our founding documents.
